Many people do not realize that the biggest Nautique event each year is not in the USA. It is in Melbourne, Australia and called the Moomba Masters.
The Moomba Masters, with its US sister The Masters, are the two most prestigious events in our industry. Athletes and spectators travel from all over the world to watch and compete in these events and they are never disappointed. The US and Moomba Masters provide great venues and the world’s best athletes. And, the world’s most prestigious tournaments require the world’s best boats which is why these tournaments have been pulled by Nautique boats for many, many years.
The 2013 Moomba Masters took place this last weekend and it was spectacular. The weather was great, the water smooth and the Nautique boats ran perfectly providing the athletes perfect wakes to compete at the highest level. Over the several days of the event there were a couple hundred thousand people on the banks of the Yarra River watching the Nautique boats pull incredible performances.
The skiing was great with amazing performances in slalom, jump, night jump, and tricks. In fact, the Moomba Masters men’s slalom record was broken during the semi-finals by Nate Smith behind the Ski Nautique and then Nate’s new record was tied the next day by Chris Parrish in the finals. The Moomba Masters is 53 years old so records don’t come easy which is a huge tribute to the incredible performances by Nate, Chris and the Ski Nautique 200!
The entire Nautique team is proud that Nautique skiers Chris Parrish and Whitney McClintock won the men’s and women’s slalom division. Both Chris and Whitney are both previous winners too and we could not be more proud of them. And a special shout out to a Nautique athlete from years past, Emma Shears, who has taken the last eight years off to raise her family but came back for the 2013 Moomba Masters and won second place in women’s slalom – a great performance Emma!
The crowds were also amazed by the incredible wakeboard performances behind Nautique’s Super Air Nautique G23. Australia’s own Tony Lacconi rocked the huge G23 wake and landed a Blind Freddo which had previously never been performed behind a boat in competition. The G23 wake was big and clean just as competitors have come to expect from the world’s best wake boat.
Finally, congrats to Darren Robertson and the entire team in Melbourne who worked so hard to put on a wonderful event for a couple hundred thousand people on site and another huge number of people watching the webcast around the world. Great job guys!
