Last season Team Nautique rider Robert “Bob” Soven dominated the Jr. Pro Men Division winning the Air Nautique WWA Nationals and all five stops of the Pro Wakeboard tour. He then went on to become the youngest person to ever land a 1080. Since then he has traveled all over the world, invented two new tricks, and has more followers on twitter than anyone I know. All of this, and he is still in high school. We caught up with Bob during some rare down time at his house in Longwood FL, to talk about everything that’s going on with him and his plans for the 2010 season.
Nautique: Thanks for having us over Bob.
Bob: It’s really no problem at all. On rainy down days you can usually find me here in my study enjoying the fine arts and sipping on glasses of Monster. Make yourselves comfortable.
Nautique: We heard you just got back from a trip to Australia and Fiji. How was that?
Bob: Australia was alright but nothing in life could have prepared me for Fiji. It was amazing! Myself and the whole Body Glove Crew had an amazing time.
Nautique: You’re going into your first year competing in the Pro Men’s Division. How is that going to be different and what are you doing to prepare for the season?
Bob: The professional wakeboarder starts off the water. I have been working really hard at trying to become cooler. I’ve started to grow my hair out and I also take opportunities like today to focus on becoming a more mature and sophisticated gentleman.
Nautique: What is it like to have to juggle high school and your wakeboarding career?
Bob: High School Shmischool, I have it all pretty much balanced between girls at home and on the road.
Nautique: You’ve already landed the 1080 and invented the “Trifecta” as well as the “Billion dollar baby”, is there anything new that you’re working on that we can expect to see in the near future?
Bob: Yes actually. I am going to start making my own music so that I can just name my own songs instead of continuing to ruin the names of wakeboard tricks forever.
Nautique: What does your training regimen look like?
Bob: I do a lot of yoga and thumb exercises because I feel that it is key to good wakeboarding. Other than that I ride behind my Nautique 230 everyday. I feel that riding behind the best and most classy boat on the water gives me the edge I need to be ahead of the competition.
Nautique: Thanks for having us Bob. Is there anything else you would like people to know before we leave?
Bob: Yes, I have some things I would like to address. I like Brunettes because they are better girlfriends and my favorite Flower is the Tulip. Roses are played out.
