Last week Nautique and the wakeboard world descended upon Reno, Nevada, for the Air Nautique Wakeboard National Championships. It was a great few days as competitors from all over the country competed fiercely behind our Nautique boats for the title of national champion.
All of us at Nautique love this event. One of the reasons we enjoy it so much is that the Air Nautique Nationals is a grass roots event with people from all over the country participating. It is not just an event that caters to the pros, even though all the pros do participate. The Air Nautique Nationals have categories for all age groups.
One great example of what can happen at the Nationals is the story of Matt and Jodi Vermillion from Columbus, Ohio. They both competed in their age group and won, becoming a husband and wife team of national champions. I had the opportunity to meet Matt and Jodi and they are not only dedicated Nautique fans but also great people who use their boat for charity. They enjoy giving inner city kids a chance to go wakeboarding. Matt and Jodi, congrats again, I couldn’t be happier for you.
The pros and amateurs alike all raved about the new Nautique boats and the great wake they produce; the competition was great, congratulations to all the winners!
There were a number of other events that occurred last week in Reno during the Air Nautique Nationals that made it an exciting week.
On Thursday and Friday, as the Air Nautique Nationals were getting started, our team was able to host several of our west coast Nautique dealers and show them some of the exciting improvements we recently made to the Nautique product line. They also got to see our awesome new boat (more on that in a minute!)
On Friday night the Nautique team took on several other teams in a dodge ball tournament that has become a tradition of the Air Nautique Wakeboard Nationals. Though the Nautique team did not win the tournament, Nautique riders Brandon (BT) Thomas and JD Webb definitely get the award for the most artful dodging!
On Sunday morning my good friend and former Nautique employee Kevin Durham was joined by Team Nautique wakeboarders Emily Durham (Kevin’s wife) Shaun Murray to produce a great “Wake Church.” Kevin left Nautique over a year ago to start a new ministry called “This Iz My Story” and if you would like to learn more about it you can check them out at This Iz My Story.
Finally, the highlight of the week was the introduction of Nautique’s all-new Sport Nautique 200. This innovative boat is unlike anything the industry has ever seen and is going to revolutionize the towboat market. The boat is a world class ski boat and ALSO an awesome wakeboard, wakeskate and wakesurf boat. This is a one of a kind boat that is very exciting. We cannot wait to get it to your local dealer!
As you can tell it was a great week. All of us on the Nautique team are excited about this past week and even more excited about the future.
Enjoy the Nautique life!
