| A Great Weekend at the Masters! | 05/28/08 |
There is no question that the most prestigious water ski and wakeboard tournament in the world is the Masters, held each Memorial Day weekend at Callaway Gardens outside of Atlanta, Georgia. As I drove to Callaway this past Saturday morning from Atlanta, I could feel the excitement building even before I arrived. Once I entered the gates of beautiful Callaway Gardens I knew this was going to be a weekend to remember.
Correct Craft is proud to present the Masters each year with our good friends at Callaway Gardens. Our team and the Callaway team worked well together to create a great environment for an awesome event. Robin Lake was set up perfectly for athletes and spectators alike to have a memorable weekend. The weather cooperated too and everyone really seemed to have a great time.
Besides the thousands that attended the event in person, we had over 100,000 people watch some portion of the Masters on our live web cast. It was fun to listen to the Masters announcers read the many emails that came in from those enjoying the web cast.
On Sunday morning we had a chapel service led by Shaun Murray, Emily Copeland Durham and current Women’s Slalom world record holder Kristi Overton Johnson. This service has been an important part of the Masters weekend each year; there were just over 200 who attended this year’s chapel service.
Following Sunday’s chapel service, there was a spectacular opening ceremony that included sky divers from Red Bull and each finals competitor riding in a Nautique with their national flag. All in attendance will not soon forget this ceremony.
The competition on the water Sunday was nail biting and provided plenty of excitement for those who had the opportunity to enjoy watching the incredible athletes in action.
The weekend was capped off with a banquet that is open to the public and unlike anything else we do in the world of water skiing or wakeboarding. All of the athletes attended and several awards were given out including the International Water Ski Federation (IWSF)’s Female and Male Athlete of the Year titles which were presented to Team Nautique athletes Jaret Llewellyn and Clementine Lucine.
As it is every year, this Masters weekend truly was spectacular. The phenomenal setting of Callaway Gardens coupled with the tradition of the Masters is a weekend that is hard to beat.
As great as the past Masters have been we are already incredibly excited about next year. Next year’s event will be the 50th Masters and we plan to celebrate it in a big way. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us next Memorial Day weekend for what is sure to be a fun and historic weekend!
Enjoy the Nautique life!
